THE WORKSHOP: Geared toward both beginning and advanced writers, Judith Barrington’s two-day memoir workshop addresses issues of craft and ethics relating to writing about real people and places. Judith’s approach includes discussion of specific topics, mini-lectures, writing exercises, and, when time permits, the sharing of drafts. There will be no critique of previously-written work.
The “People and Places” Workshop focuses on generating new material
with exercises and/or discussion addressing:
* ways into the story
* the narrator as a character
* the use of “I”
* description and imagery
* the importance of place
* dialogue
* setting boundaries around the story
* sounds and rhythms of words
* memory and its inevitable flaws

"Many thanks for the wonderful workshop. I have been doing personal writing for quite some time, but never formally. I found that all the questions that I had were pertinent and they were all answered during the weekend. Now it's time to put the answers to use!
Thank you for making the workshop so enjoyable, so applicable and relevant."
