2008 MANUSCRIPT CONTEST - DEADLINE: JANUARY 15, 2008

Enter the first 30 pages of your manuscript for a chance to meet and receive written critique from New York literary agent, Theresa Park, owner of The Park Literary Group LLC, a New York-based literary agency founded in 2003.

Theresa Park is the owner of The Park Literary Group LLC, a New York-based literary agency founded in 2003.  She began her career as a literary agent at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates in 1994. (Prior to that, she was an attorney at Cooley Godward, a Silicon Valley law firm). She represents a mixture of plot-driven fiction and serious nonfiction. Some of her clients include Nicholas Sparks, Debbie Macomber, Emily Giffin, Laura Zigman, Sarah Lovett, Lee Silver, Dominika Dery, B.R. Myers, Lisa Cullen, Robert Whitaker and Thomas Levenson. A graduate of U.C. Santa Cruz and Harvard Law School , she is married to Greg Irikura, a photographer, and has two children.

Please submit adult fiction, non-fiction and memoir manuscripts only.  Submissions in science fiction, romance, self-help, poetry and children’s picture books will be disqualified.

Entry Fee:
$30 US per submission. (Please note that you must purchase a conference ticket prior to entering the manuscript contest.)  Multiple entries are accepted but a separate entry fee must be paid per submission.

Entry Deadline:
Materials must be received by 5 p.m. (CST) January 15, 2008.  A total of 8 (eight) winners will be notified no later than February 1, 2008. Each winner will receive written comments on their submission and a 10 minute consultation with Ms. Parks during the Writers’ Conference.

Submission Details:
Submit a one-page, double-spaced synopsis and the first 30 pages of your manuscript via emai to:l jody@sanmiguelworkshops.com. Please send pages in AN ATTACHMENT using either Word or PDF file. Make sure no author name appears on any page of the submission or synopsis. All entries MUST be submitted via email only.

Rules:

  1. You must be a paid registrant of the SMW Conference to participate in the manuscript contest.
  2. Every entry will be read by the judges. The decision of the judges is final.
  3. All entries must be typed double-spaced in 12-point Times Roman or similar font, on one side of 8-1/2 x 11-inch bond paper.
  4. Place the title and page number on each page. Make sure no author name appears on any page of the submission or the entry will be disqualified.
  5. Each entry must be paid for prior to submission either online via Paypal by going to the registration page or by paying with a US check, cash in US dollars (or peso equivalent) at La Conexción, Aldama #3, Box 630 in San Miguel or in the US, mailed to PO Box 120005 Nashville, TN 37212. (Please do not send cash via US mail.)
  6. All entries must be in English.
  7. Only winning entries will be returned and critiqued.

    2008 MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE - DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 5, 2008

    During the Writers' Conference you will have the opportunity to meet with and receive written critique from Jamie Raab, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Grand Central Publishing (formerly Warner Books). Jamie Raab oversees the publication of approximately 300 titles per year on Grand Central Publishing’s hardcover, mass market and trade paperback lists. 

    Since joining the company in 1986, she has acquired and/or edited a wide range of fiction and nonfiction titles including such New York Times bestsellers as AMERICA (The Book) by Jon Stewart and the writers of The Daily Show, DUDE, WHERE’S MY COUNTRY? by Michael Moore, and the forthcoming I AM AMERICA (AND SO CAN YOU!) by Stephen Colbert.  Her primary areas of interest are fiction and current events, and some of the authors with whom she has worked, other than those already mentioned, include Bob Colacello, Nicholas Delbanco, Nelson DeMille, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Jane Goodall, Billie Letts, Brad Meltzer, Jacqueline Mitchard, Rosie O’Donnell, Anne Rivers Siddons, Nicholas Sparks, and Lalita Tademy.

    Categories for submission:

    Please submit a synopsis and first 30 pages of your manuscript in either adult fiction, non-fiction or memoir manuscripts only.  Submissions in science fiction, romance, self-help, poetry and children’s picture books will not be considered.

    Critique Fee:
    $75 US per submission. (Please note that you must purchase a conference ticket prior to paying for a Critique Fee.)  Only one entry per person will be accepted.

    Entry Deadline:
    Materials must be received by 5 p.m. (CST) February 5, 2008.  A total of 10 (ten) submissions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.   Each participant will receive written comments on their submission and a 10 minute consultation with Ms. Raab during the SMW Conference.
