    COACHING SESSIONS WITH JANET GOLDSTEIN

During the Writers' Conference you will have the opportunity to meet with Janet Goldstein, founder and principal of Janet Goldstein Enterprises, a boutique publishing and strategy consulting firm that works with authors, publishers, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits at all stages, “to bring their ideas and publishing visions to the next level.” Only 6 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Coaching Session will be a one-on-one 30-minute coaching session to review the concept, editorial strength, market viability and publishing options for one fiction or non-fiction project. The goal for each participant will be to come up with specific creative and business next steps. Participants will have the option of completing a two-page “book brief” assignment in advance. This is the most important internal document used in a publishing house.

Previously she worked for three of the largest New York trade publishers. She spent 15 years at HarperCollins Publishers where she rose up the editorial ranks; she was part of the original start-up team at Broadway Books; and she spent six years at Viking Penguin where she was an executive editor and director of its spirituality imprint. She has published many influential and best-selling books in the fields of work and business, psychology, women’s issues, parenting, health, sociology, social history, fiction, and spirituality.

Authors with whom Janet has worked include novelist Barbara Kingsolver; executive consultants David Allen, Keith Yamashita, and Susan Scott; former Ms. editor Suzanne Braun Levine; Essence and New York Times editor Linda Villarosa; political advocate Marie Wilson; psychologist Harriet Lerner; parenting experts Mary Kurcinka and Roni Cohen-Sandler; poet Ellen Bass; CNN reporter Maria Hinojosa; Buddhist teacher Lama Surya Das; Lakota historian Joseph Marshall; and anthropologist Mel Konner.

Janet has taught at the University of Michigan, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Women’s Review of Books, and New York University. She is a member of the Women’s Media Group and serves on several non-profit boards. She lives in New York City with her daughters and husband.

Her first co-authored book, It’s Not About the Coffee: Leadership Lessons From a Life at Starbucks (Portfolio/The Penguin Group) by lead author Howard Behar, is coming out in January 2008.
